As we were driving along some remote, icy road during our last trip to Iceland in March, Ron and I decided that we would like to write an e-book on photographing Iceland. After spending more than six weeks and 7,000 miles driving around the country at least a few times, we were both realizing that we had developed a very strong affection for Iceland and its landscapes – stronger than most other places we have visited. The diversity of the scenery is almost unbelievable, the soft and colorful light can last for what seems like forever, and the experience of seeing a place like the Jokulsarlon ice beach in winter or the aurora borealis is simply awe-inspiring. Iceland is truly a photographer’s paradise and we decided that a better resource should exist to help photographers make the most of what will probably be a trip of a lifetime for most.
At the time, we had no idea how much time and effort it would take to develop a product we could be proud of. After spending many, many hours going through our respective collections of images and selecting our favorites, processing photos, writing, and learning more Adobe software products than we might have liked, we are so very happy to announce that Forever Light: The Landscape Photographer’s Guide to Iceland is now available.
In developing this e-book, we created something that we wish we had during our first trip to Iceland in June 2012. During that trip, we traveled with our good friend and fellow landscape photographer Koveh Tavakkol. Ron and Koveh spent a great deal of time browsing photos of Iceland to identify potential locations, extensively researching those location leads, and then developing a detailed map to help us plan our route. During this process, we all wished that better resources for planning a photography trip to Iceland existed. After Ron and I spent another three weeks in Iceland earlier this year, we decided that we had the knowledge and photos necessary to develop the guide we wished we had that first time around.
For photographers who are interested in visiting Iceland, we hope that Forever Light will be an excellent resource for planning a trip and then maximizing your time after you arrive. Forever Light includes the following information:
• More than 90 landscape photos from locations across Iceland (you can view a sampling of images included in the e-book in my Iceland gallery on this website). • Detailed descriptions for 30 locations, including GPS coordinates, detailed directions, photography considerations, and sample photographs. • Advice on lodging and transportation to help plan a trip that maximizes photography options. • Seasonal information to help you decide when to visit, including a section on the aurora borealis (and some tips for photographing it). • Links to helpful resources for photographers, like weather information and road conditions. • Gear considerations and tips to help you be prepared for the photography conditions you will likely encounter. • Suggested itineraries for one, two, and three-week trips.
All this comes in at 96 full-sized pages, each packed with what we hope will be very helpful information that will save you time, focus your planning, and get you to some really amazing and wonderful locations.
